Day Trip to LA

This Saturday, Jeff and I drove up to Los Angeles to see some of our good ol’ friends. First, we went to Venice where we met up with Stephanie and Mike for some Baby Blues BBQ. This place has been featured on the food channel’s Diners, Drive-In’s and Dives, so Mike suggested that we check it out. It’s a pretty cool place and the servings are generous. They had several different sauces on the table to accompany your choice of meat, one of the sauces didn’t even have a name, but it was spicy alright! We all thoroughly enjoyed our ribs and delicious sides of mac-n-cheese, creamed spinach, and cornbread. If you’re hungry and in LA, this place is worth checking out. I took some pictures of our food and friends, but I lost my camera =( and the pictures too.

Afterward, we went to take a stroll at Venice Beach. This was really eye-opening to me, I’ve never been to a beach that had so many things going on at once; there were so many sights, sounds, and smells! Venice beach stretches out and is actually really big! It’s got some shops and vendors on the boardwalk, it has basketball courts, a skate park for skateboards, and lots of sand and beach. There was so much going on there, it’s definitely a different scene than La Jolla Shores by UCSD. We got to enjoy the nice weather and walk around to look at everything.

At night, we drove over to K-town for some Korean BBQ, (i know, lots of meat in one day). It was our friend Ray’s birthday and his girlfriend got a bunch of his friends to gather together and surprise him! It was so good to see Ray and our other friends Jordan, Diana, and Duke too! We ate at Soowon Galbi Korean Barbeque. This place isn’t all-you-can-eat, but it was still very good. We ordered combo A and combo B which came with an assortment of different types of meat, and the waiter helps you cook it in front of you! There were a lot of banchans too; banchans are the little side dishes; our table could barely hold all the plates we had! I think we all left satisfied and full. Because it was Ray’s birthday, the cashier sent over some complimentary yogurt soju to celebrate, it was really yummy!
